Advisory Panel

The A+J Patient Advocacy Advisory Panel consists of patients, caregivers, and health professionals. It is a collaborative learning community where panelists share their stories, promote health advocacy in their communities, and help to advance equitable and accessible health care for all. Each individual serves a two-year term, attends quarterly virtual meetings, and follows an advocacy code of ethics.

Aaron carpenter

Mr. Carpenter is a graduate of North Carolina State University and holds degrees in Computational Physics and Mathematics. He works as a Software Engineer at University of Washington. A self-described data nerd, he enjoys DIY projects around the house, North Carolina barbecue, listening to National Public Radio, and tinkering with his car.

Aaron is the father of two teens with lifelong, chronic diseases. He is a caregiver advocate and enjoys connecting with other parents of special needs children. Aaron lives in Southern Nevada with his wife, two children, and their Great Danes.

carissa klundt

Ms. Klundt has been in health and wellness for nearly two decades. She holds a degree in Psychology and numerous certifications in health, wellness and fitness. She specializes in Meditation, Yoga, Sound Healing and Breath Mastery. You can find her teaching classes, holding events, playing with her family or having Tea Ceremonies under the moonlight. 

Carissa hopes to share knowledge from her field as as well as gain insights from the other professionals on the Advisory Panel for the betterment of all. You can learn more about her work at Celestial Sol.

stacie lampkin, PharmD, BCPPS, BCPA, CA

A pediatric pharmacist with a passion for education, Stacie has spent more than 10 years providing clinical pharmacy services and supporting providers and families who care for medically complex kids and adolescents. Stacie also inspires and educates future healthcare professionals in both classroom and patient care settings.

In 2019, after experiencing first-hand the difficulties of navigating a new health issue, Stacie started sharing her knowledge about pediatric medications on a larger scale. Through Stacie Lampkin LLC, she combines her expertise, experience as a patient and parent, and interest in aromatherapy and herbalism to create digital resources, online courses, and personalized presentations. By learning with Stacie, parents, caregivers, patient advocates, healthcare professionals, and holistic practitioners will gain clarity and confidence in making medication-related healthcare choices that are right for the kids they care for.

courtney leaver

Ms. Leaver is a graduate of Roger Williams University and a Licensed Insurance Broker at Durante Insurance & Financial Services. She provides her clients with the utmost care when it comes to their health, home, and auto insurance needs. Courtney prides herself on spending time getting to know her clients and is passionate about educating them on policy coverages, limitations, and exclusions.

Courtney is active in the community and local schools, and lives in Southern Nevada with her husband and two children. She is also a chronic illness patient and utilizes both her personal and professional experience to help as many people as she can.

l. natalie lee, rn, bsn

Ms. Lee holds a degree in Biology from University of California Irvine and a degree in Nursing from University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and is currently enrolled in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Chamberlain University.

At a young age Natalie was aware of the hardships and inequities in the healthcare system. She would accompany her mother to appointments, where she would have to translate difficult medical jargon. Natalie saw how the language barrier and lack of knowledge about the healthcare system prevented many people in her neighborhood from seeking care. She is excited to utilize her experience in support of all A+J clients.

dijonasse lofton

Ms. Lofton is a nursing student living with complex, chronic illness. She has learned the hard way to keep records, speak up, and ask questions. She is hopeful her care team’s plan will help her return to school and become a nurse advocate for others.

Deja is active in various patient support groups and lives in Southern Nevada. She is a proud auntie and spreads awareness of chronic illness through her TikTok account, Just a Girl Living with Chronic Illness.

artyom pyatin

Mr. Pyatin is a teenager living with multiple congenital, lifelong conditions. He is learning to advocate within the healthcare system, with guidance from his parents and primary care doctor. Recently, he successfully scheduled his own annual appointments and completed routine lab work.

Artyom enjoys soccer, video gaming, and History. He lives in Southern Nevada with his parents and younger brother, who also lives with chronic illness.

alex sakash

Mr. Sakash earned a degree in Education from Framingham State University and currently directs an elementary school enrichment program. He is the parent of two children, one born with complex congenital heart defects, and is a devoted caregiver advocate. Alex also volunteers as the Vice President of Conquering CHD – Massachusetts.

When not spending time with his wife and daughters, Alex can be found making videos on the disc golf course.

nathan say

Mr. Say is a Spoken Word Artist with Cerebral Palsy and multiple chronic illnesses. His professional experiences include writing workshop facilitation, program evaluation, hospitality and tourism, telephonic medical assisting, and social media management.

Nathan enjoys combining these experiences while living honestly and authentically within the boundaries of his illnesses, teaching people to dismantle their internalized ableism all along the way. He is currently working on his Master’s degree in Forensic Mental Health Counseling and lives in Tennessee. 

Nauman Shahid, MPH, BSc

Mr. Shahid is an active patient advocate in the congenital heart disease community. He earned a BSc in Biology, a Master of Public Health in Health Policy, and is currently in medical school with aspirations to become a physician. He has been featured on various podcasts and a DocuFilm, lobbied at the United States Congress, and is a published author in the European Heart Journal. Nauman has also worked as a public health advisor at the federal level in responding to the Ebola outbreak of 2014 at quarantine stations nationwide.

Nauman takes great pride in working with young adults who need an advocate by their side to navigate their chronic illness and school policy handbooks. When not pursuing his academic commitments, he loves to write poetry, read up on the latest advancements in Adult/Pediatric Cardiology, and cook!

tabitha rainey

Ms. Rainey is the Founder and President of Roll For The Heart, an organization bringing awareness to chronic illness through the martial art of Jiu Jitsu. She is an experienced caregiver advocate for her son living with congenital defects and medical injury, and currently serves as a Parent Liaison to the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.

Tabitha is dedicated to her practice of Jiu Jitsu, enjoys nature, and lives with her husband and three children in Kentucky.

jennifer williams

Ms. Williams is a graduate of East Carolina University and Walden University, holding a degree in Education with a concentration in middle level social studies. She has won Teacher of the Year awards twice, in 2015 and 2020.

Jennifer is the parent of two teens living with lifelong genetic conditions and an experienced caregiver advocate within their disease community. She lives in North Carolina with her husband and two children.
